Solid surface
The material behind the seam you cannot see.
Acrylic solid surface: cast, not pressed. It is what a reception desk eight metres long is made of, and a basin with no joint at the rim. We cast 800,000 m² a year on three automatic lines in the same Yunfu compound as the quartz.

What it is
A cast sheet, not a compressed stone.
Acrylic resin and alumina trihydrate, poured into a mould and cured. No quartz granule, no vacuum press, no resin used only as a binder between stone particles.
That one difference explains everything the material is good at. Because it is homogeneous all the way through, it can be bonded with a colour-matched adhesive and sanded flush — the joint disappears. Because it softens with heat, it can be curved. Because the colour runs through the full thickness, a scratch is removed by sanding rather than revealed.
It is also why it should not be sold as a kitchen worktop to a client who wants stone. It is a different material with a different job.

Where it beats quartz
Four jobs quartz cannot do
Seamless runs
A desk, a bar or a counter longer than any slab. Pieces are bonded and sanded flush, so there is no line to catch the light and nothing to trap dirt.
Curves
Heated and formed around a column, up into a coved upstand, or into a shaped basin rim. Quartz is thermoset: it cannot be bent.
Repair on site
A scratch, a scorch mark or a chip is sanded and polished out by a fabricator after handover. On quartz the only cure is replacement.
Hygiene through the body
Non-porous for its full thickness with no coating to wear through. That is why it turns up in clinics, labs and food preparation areas.
Choosing
Which one belongs in your job
The honest comparison, including where solid surface loses.
| Property | Solid surface | Engineered quartz |
|---|---|---|
| Joints | Invisible — bonded and sanded flush | Visible; colour-matched adhesive at best |
| Curving | Thermoformed with heat | Not possible |
| Scratch repair | Sanded out on site | Not repairable |
| Heat | Sensitive; trivet always | Sensitive; trivet always |
| Surface hardness | Softer — marks more easily | Harder — better for worktops and floors |
| Unshaded outdoors | Not advised | Not advised |
| Typical use | Reception, bar tops, healthcare, basins, curved walls | Kitchen worktops, islands, floors, wall cladding |
If a project needs both — quartz worktops and a seamless solid surface island in the same kitchen — they can travel in the same container and be quoted on one set of documents.

Sheet, sink, basin, bath
Four products, one material, one set of colour references.

Sinks, basins and baths are cast in the same building as the sheet, so the colour of a basin can be matched to the sheet it sits in rather than being a near-miss from a second supplier.
Enquiry
Tell us the sheet, the colour and the job.
Send the length, the thickness you are specifying and the colour reference, and we will confirm what is running and what the lead time is. If it is a curved or seamless run, send the drawing — that decides the sheet size.
Ask about solid surface
Sheet, sinks, basins or baths — tell us the quantity and the destination port.
Enquiry
Not sure which material the job needs?
Send the drawing or a photograph of what is being replaced. We will tell you whether quartz or solid surface is the right answer, including when the answer is the cheaper one.
